Online Appraisal

D. I was wanting to ask a questions. I have a few pictures I'm going to attach to this email, would it be at all possible to tell me if my error coin is rare or even worth having checked out or even have any value, Also how much would it cost to have it checked out?? My coin is a 1976 D cent i believe its an error that has the word "AMERICA" stamped backwords on the Obverse side/edge of the coin between the words "LIBERTY" and "IN" that could have accured when being made, ive never seen anything like it and seems highly unlikely that someone could have even been capable of putting it there. Please let me know your thoughts and opinions please and thank you in advance for your time and help.

We ask people not to submit such things before reading about them on our site. From our tutorials: "Writing from another coin makes you think it was struck with the wrong die? If it's reversed think again. All you need for that effect is a hammer: whack two coins together on a hard surface or in a vise, and voila. Faux error."

You say it's "highly unlikely" someone did this. Why would it be more likely that the mint, careful in its production, would do such a thing?

It's neat, I'll give you that. But not very valuable or an error coin.

SUBMIT AN ITEM FOR FREE APPRAISAL

We kindly ask you to limit your request to ONE item, preferably with images of both sides. We specialize in items that are older and of some historic importance. Please include photos of both sides if possible.

We may use your appraisal on our site as reference for others with the same item(s). We'll never display your personal information and will remove all sensitive information from your submission. Please contact us for a private appraisal. View our privacy policy.

Most inquiries we get are about circulated coins made after 1971, and/or coins where people mistake post-mint damage and wear for "errors". You can expect us to affirm these are face value. We ask that before you write and submit such questions, to PLEASE first read through our existing postings and our "what it's worth" primers.

Add images of your item or collection.
