Online Appraisal

D. Good evening sir , I am a collector of world coins and banknotes based in the UK . I have many beautiful coins and scarce banknotes but this little beauty is baffling me please can you help me identify this . This coin/ token dated 1888 weighs 5gms and is 23mm and made of brass ? Reeded edge . On the reverse side is a perfect depiction of the Morgan dollar eagle with a small 5D , on the obverse is Liberty head . Is this a gaming token? Trial piece? Or child’s doll house toy money? , What is it ? Either way it’s very interesting and as been struck with the most perfect clear strike with beautiful detail . Photo attached unfortunately I can only send one photo the reverse side , but can send you obverse and closer detailed photos if requested Thank you for your time and for looking Best regards Martin Jones

It's fascinating. Odds are it's a low-value fantasy piece. The best possibility would be that it could be a "pattern" coin from the mint, a design piece. Any chance you would ship it insured for appraisal and representation?

Most inquiries we get are about circulated coins made after 1971, and/or coins where people mistake post-mint damage and wear for "errors". You can expect us to affirm these are face value. We ask that before you write and submit such questions, to PLEASE first read through our existing postings and our "what it's worth" primers.
