D. My pawpaw(granpa) was a wealthy redneck (if you know the term) and money had little to no value to him. He gave away more than he spent on himself. Anyhow having said that, I've had several so called "coin experts/collectors" tell me that they've never seen this coin don't even know what it is and that my pawpaw was a fool for cutting it like he did. (He was going to make some kind of necklace out of it but never finished for some reason) this ended up in a mason jar that he buried along with others that I've found here and there and was just interested in finding out what it was to begin with. I have alot more coins. U. S. Foreign and some foreign paper money but I don't know what to do with any of it, i don't trust anyone around where I'll be damned if I'm gonna let someone con me out of my pawpaw's things. (He was literally my favorite person in the world) so thank you so much for the time and information you give I very much appreciate it. -Kalyn Jo Dearman Energy, Mississippi

Now that it's been altered, it's certainly just nominal in value, maybe a couple dollars in silver. Most loose coins are not worth a lot, perhaps a little more than face value. If silver they can be worth 10-15 times face value or more, but rarities are usually in fine collections. I think you should seek out a local dealer and trust them. Why assume a merchant will be dishonest and con you? Perhaps they assume you already got a good offer, and they don't want you finding out later it was worth more.
