Most inquiries we get are about circulated coins made after 1971, and/or coins where people mistake post-mint damage and wear for "errors". You can expect us to affirm these are face value. We ask that before you write and submit such questions, to PLEASE first read through our existing postings and our "what it's worth" primers.

D. 1997 U.S. Penny

Wow when did 1997 become old?

D. 1995 U.S. Penny

We call this a "cent".

D. Buffalo nickels 3-1936 1-1937. There are only 5 with legendible dates they were discolored when I found them

Collectors like to know the date and all of these are common. I put the group at $3-5 total.

D. Need help which is Proof coin?

None of these look like proof coins. Proof coins are made with specially polished dies and are quite reflective. These look like regular issue coins, possibly mint state. I think these date to the 1970s, which renders them close to face value.

D. Last number on the date is damaged. Dime with multiple damages

This could be the ugliest dime I've ever seen in my career. Yes, it has much damage. And there seems to be a lot of confusion between damaged coins and mint errors. Mint errors happen in the production of the coin, before they leave the mint. Sometimes they have value. Damage, which takes place after they leave the mint, does nothing but decrease the value of a coin.

D. 2014 quarter

With the most crippling damage of any quarter in North America.

D. Unusual nickle with no date and damaged markings around edges and in the word United.

Appears quite common to me, just heavily worn. Without the date it's just and old nickel!
