Submit An Item For Free Appraisal

We kindly ask you to limit your request to ONE item, preferably with images of both sides. We specialize in items that are older and of some historic importance. Please include photos of both sides if possible.

We may use your appraisal on our site as reference for others with the same item(s). We'll never display your personal information and will remove all sensitive information from your submission. Please contact us for a private appraisal. View our privacy policy.

Most inquiries we get are about circulated coins made after 1971, and/or coins where people mistake post-mint damage and wear for "errors". You can expect us to affirm these are face value. We ask that before you write and submit such questions, to PLEASE first read through our existing postings and our "what it's worth" primers.

D. 1880 mint S

These early San Francisco Morgans have lovely proof like strikes because the dies were new. They are easily found for $30-40.

D. 1981 Half Dollar - off center strike error

Cool! I'd buy for $15, sell for 20.

D. 2020-W - Quarter - with v75_privy mark

Another quarter, I'm ready for the slots!

D. Silver coin with a 20 on back

20 Francs, or hellers perhaps... very common, buy a pencil next time you visit Switzerland?

D. $1.00 bill series 2003 with uneven borders. Bill is in fairly good condition

This is not significant enough of an error to have value more than face value. You could, for instance, cut an uncut sheet to appear to be uneven. But even if it's legit, it's too close to even to warrant a premium. Keep searching for treasure!

D. 2006 dime with multiple errors

"We stopped responding to inquiries about modern error coins, except for genuine errors in uncirculated specimens. Mostly people are submitting ordinary coins with damage or such minor variations in the minting process that they are at best worth face value."

D. 1988D quarter with error on the front.

See my comment re: modern errors on my site.

D. $5 silver certificate

You have a really nice note in a problem condition. Even so it's probably going to fetch a couple hundred dollars. Can I persuade you to meet with me to discuss it? Marc

D. 1999 Close AM COINS 1982 No Mint Mark coins

I really should not be responding. Close AM, far AM, add ERICA, and you have a country full of people looking for trivial differences in coins. No mint mark = Philadelphia mint. "We stopped responding to inquiries about modern error coins, except for genuine errors in uncirculated specimens. Mostly people are submitting ordinary coins with damage or such minor variations in the minting process that they are at best worth face value."

D. 1968 S Proof LINCOLN CENT

It's a beauty! Your question was whether the toning is authentic. This is very tricky. You can get this effect by holding the coin over a stove and applying heat. The most reliable way unfortunately it's to send it off and have it graded, which can cost upwards of $40. And then you're at the mercy of the grading companies because sometimes they get it right and sometimes they don't. You're now in the realm of subjectivity, where it gets kind of philosophical and a matter of opinion as to where b...
