It is a roughly 37 gram, 1.5in diameter medal that I believe to be bronze. It has some residue from the board it was on. I got it at a garage sale. The front says Lightning Averted Tyranny Repelled. The back shows a beaver, tree, and 1776. The edges are smooth from my observation.

This Benjamin Franklin Medal, dated 1776, sometimes referred to as the Beaver Medal, was actually struck in the early 1800s and it is believed there may have been some restrikes after that. If original and in very good condition, this could be of value. However, it has to be determined that it is original and not a restrike, and the condition plays a big part in value. You say you got it at a garage sale and it was glued to a board. It would be helpful to understand if it was with other medals as part of some kind of set which may lean towards restrike. If you would like to bring it in so we can have a better look, we'd be happy to schedule an appointment or have a call to get more information.
