D. Cyprus, 5 pounds from 1966 year 1500 coin produced, all from 40 grams gold, 22K In this condition, how would you appraise this coin??? Thanks in advance

Asked on Oct 28, 2021

Value is $2,000!

REVISED ANSWER, based on request flor clartity:

You'll have to find a collector. There is essentially no numismatic premium for modern gold. "Spot" is a value that you get when you're a company trading 100,000 ounces. Individuals likely get less. Any premium would be the dealer's profit. I'd ask $200 over spot for that coin at a show. But I'd take 98% spot. That's the market I'm in. You have to ask yourself the question, if someone else has the coin, would you pay $1,900 to get it? If the answer is no, why would you hold it if you can get that? And if the answer is yes, I'll try to fill the order. I entirely understand and agree with you. But I can't pay that amount, and honestly don't know who would. Look around, I have a few colleagues in the area. I can almost guarantee they will offer you between $1975 and $2,025. Gold is very high, so the market risk forces us to be conservative. I'm more of a rare coin dealer and appraiser than a bullion dealer. 1,500 is a low mintage, but not ultra low for modern gold, as there are many mints offering many proofs with low numbers.

I believe that this coin have some numismatic value, it's minted in only 1500 pieces

If I get reasonable numismatic offer, I will sell it like coin, but I will not sell it like gold scrap.>>
